Early 1980s

Satellite Spies is officially established in Auckland, New Zealand. The Spies Lineup during the early 1980’s constantly changes. The Auckland pub-and-club scene is where Satellite Spies perform most of their live shows, with some additional performances at music festivals.


'Destiny in Motion', the Satellite Spies album is released; which featured four singles; the title track 'Destiny in Motion', released during 1985, peaked at number 14 on the NZ charts; the other singles were 'I Wished I'd Asked', 'Machine' and 'Hold onto the Night'.


After their Auckland High School Tour, The Satellite Spies support Dire Straits’ New Zealand tour for four shows:

  • Mt. Smart Stadium (2 shows)
  • Wellington Athletic Park
  • Christchurch Lancaster Park
